A Visual Redo and the Glowing Candy Effect

Transforming a dull concrete wall into a unique and beautiful envelope? This was the goal of giving the Eden Park Stadium in Auckland a new facade. The lightweight transparent Texlon® ETFE system was the solution to outfit the venue with a whole new face. Minimum structure and maximum visual impact – the ETFE system forms the breathtaking exterior of the well-known stadium. Not to miss: Spotlights create the unique illumination throughout the building skin – we call it the glowing candy effect.

Eden Park Stadium underwent a major redevelopment for the 2011 Rugby World Cup. It was selected to host the inaugural game of the tournament as well as two quarter finals, two semi-finals, the Bronze final, and the Grand Final. This was the biggest sporting event in the country’s history and was watched by millions around the world.

Covering an impressive 9,527m2, the Texlon® ETFE facade consists of almost 400 double layer cushions designed to mimic New Zealand’s iconic ferns and the local rock strata. This transforms the stadium into a local landmark.

Exceeding all Expectations for the Facade Construction and Installation

Vector Foiltec’s offices in New Zealand, Australia, England, Germany and Brazil worked closely with the design team to design, manufacture and install the Texlon® ETFE for this benchmark stadium. Exceeding all expectations, Vector Foiltec’s international team of professionals helped to realise this project for a truly global event within the ambitious programme.

A great view from the inside out and outside in. The signature Texlon® ETFE facade provides shelter for fans and turns the stadium into eye-candy.
